Running a business can be a costly struggle. You have employees to pay, taxes to pay, equipment to buy, equipment to repay, and on and on the list goes. Luckily, you can control much of what you spend on business peripherals that can cut business expenses without hindering the growth and quality of your business. One such example is if you need storage, you can buy used storage containers.

Used VS New

You can argue up and down for hours which is better: buying something brand new or buying something used. It is not so black and white, in fact, it is often grey and murky. It always depends on the situation. Purchasing new equipment can get pricey. That equipment is, well, new and has not been destroyed, refurbished, and is in excellent condition. It will work at peak performance right out of the box.

Buy something used and it has oftentimes, seen better days. It might “work,” maybe even sometimes, but it was far cheaper and depending on what the situation is can be far more valuable than new equipment.

Let’s put it this way. If you needed a tool for only an hour, and after, you do not need it for any other reason. Would you rather buy a brand new tool that will be used for an hour or a used tool that is still working? You could argue the new tool could have more use down the road, and sure, but that is a gamble.

Why Buy Used Storage Containers?

Use the above mindset when you buy used storage containers. They made be used, but in the moment, they are far more valuable. And you saved your business money. In fact, with properly maintained storage containers, they could last years, as many as 20!

Consider this: 95 percent of the world’s cargo gets passed around on ships and in large volumes, clearly, it is the most common mode of transport. As far as transporting goes, the more you can send on one ship, the less it costs to transfer. If you used two ships to carry cargo that could have been placed on one, you have just wasted money. Now, buy used storage containers in conjunction with packing ships–not more than they can handle, of course, safety first–will end up shaving quite a bit of business expense off your bill. Not to mention, when the used storage container finally meets its end, it can be recycled, thereby reducing the building materials needed.

In fact, uses for storage containers stretches past just containing goods. Used shipping containers, when cycled are then converted into small homes. Who would have thought? And it is a very popular, cost efficient way of purchasing a home. Unfortunately, out of 17 million shipping containers, only 6 million are actually in use. That means the other 11 million are not being used for anything when they could easily be converted into homes.
