What to Know When Your John Deere Needs a New Drive Motor

What to Know When Ordering a Final Drive

Whether you are looking for a final drive for a John Deere, Bobcat, Caterpillar, or any other piece of heavy machinery, you need to be able to get the right drive the first time. Here is some information you need to know before making a purchase.

  • Know the brand and year of the model you are ordering a replacement for. If you can, have the serial number of the machine on hand as well. The more specifics you know, the better of you will be. For instance, certain John Deere models will have varying drive motor types depending on the year of their make, and the model. In this instance, one size does not fit all.
  • See if you can find out the model and manufacturer of the final drive motor you currently have. There should be an identification tag or number located on the drive that you can access.
  • Take a note of how many hydraulic connections there are. This can help when trying to figure out if it is a dual speed or a single. If there are 4 line connections you have a single speed, if there are 5 the motor runs two speed. This can make a big difference in finding which motor you need.
  • Lastly, if you can find an identification plate you may be able to access information like displacement and reduction ratio, or the date of manufacture. While this isn’t necessary, if you are unable to locate any of the above it may help fill in a few gaps that can make finding a replacement a little bit easier.

Additionally, if you every purchase a new piece of machinery, a new Bobcat, John Deere, or Komatsu, it may be worth keeping notes on all the types of replacement parts they may need in the future. All of that information should be available from who you are purchasing from, and keeping it for future reference can save you time when looking to replace any parts.

If you work with heavy machinery, you know that when drive motors fail it can cause time consuming delays that no one wants. Being able to fix the problem quickly and correctly the first time, can get you back to work without unnecessary headaches. If you need any additional assistance, don’t hesitate to reach out to experts in your area, they will be more than happy to help so that you can find you the right part in no time.
